JCS madness

To those of you on campus, I just want to send out a preemptive reminder to come see Jesus Christ Superstar next week. Last night was our tech-through and although it went till 1am, it was fun. On one hand, the whole thing is incredibly boring because the majority of the time you’re not actually running the show or doing much of anything, but it’s quite the social experience.

I had forgotten how much bonding goes on in a cast like this. In high school, it wasn’t such a big deal because you knew all the actors already. However, here, I’ve met and gotten to know lots of different people, especially freshmen, and it’s really nice. Sometimes it’s easy around here not to really get to know anyone new or make any new friends, and it’s good to get beyond that once in awhile.

Also on the theater front, tryouts for the one act play I’m directing are today and tomorrow. The show I’ll be directing is called “Flamingo,” written by Jonathan Wichmann (a Carleton student). It’s pretty racy stuff. The show is about a student who tries to be original/weird by throwing muffins at people and giving them muffins with hot sauce and wearing clashing plaids, etc. Two girls, put off by this display, decide to one-up him by inviting him to an orgy. Then they tie him up and insult him and, well… the rest you’ll just have to see. Anyway, I invite anyone and everyone who’s interested to try out today or tomorrow from 5:30 to 8:00.

It’s pretty ridiculous how busy I am already this term, but I think that I’ll pull through, and definitely once JCS is over I’ll have some time to myself (and to this blog) again.
