Great Political Quote of the day

10 points to Richard Wolffe for this zinger:

Who is more patriotic: Bush or Kerry? You may as well compare the size of each candidate’s manhood.

On another note, is something wrong with journalism schools these days? Why is that every political headline suddenly reads: “Kerry slams Bush on ____” or “Bush blasts Kerry on _____.” Whatever happened to creativity? What ever happened to the thesaurus? Those of us who are too lazy to actually read the articles contained (read: all of us) need more than two potential verbs to describe the underlying action.

I think the solution is to tailor the headlines to the people they’re writing for. Let me give some examples:

for the blogging crowd:

Kerry Bush war war war terrorism: I am such a political genius!

for the chatroom geeks:

cnngeekboi8: *Bush slaps Kerry with a wet trout*

for college students:

democrats Fault REpublicans on Education, joB lossEs, and EnviRonment

for corporate executives:

Bush sells soul to Satan, gives proceeds to Enron

These are, of course, only a sample of the great political headlines that could await if journalism schools get their act together. But of course, you don’t have to thank me for the idea. Ok, well… just send me free beer.
