The author is correct that many of the challenges of creating an effective energy policy require more careful analysis than most parties on both sides of the issue are willing to consider. That’s an unfortunate side effect of being such a political hot-button issue. Once the hype has subsided a bit, I expect we’ll see exactly the situation he envisions. Coming to terms with the long run effects of our energy consumption will be a hard slog for the foreseeable future.
