At 4:18 today, I walked into Scoville and turned it in. My writing portfolio’s done, and a full 42 minutes ahead of time to boot. There’s nothing quite so satisfying as barely making a deadline.
I tried not to bullshit too much for this thing, but when you’re faced with an annoying assignment like this, it just sort of comes out. But it was believable at least, I think. Reading my reflective essay, you’d actually be persuaded that my writing had improved over the last two years. Not to be cynical of course, but let’s be honest, the writing portfolio is just a way for Carleton to congratulate itself for teaching its students to write. Also, it’s a way to turn us all into research subjects for their nefarious plot. I kid you not. Accordingly, I filled my reflective essay with lots of self-congratulatory drivel about the value of a liberal arts education.
Note: I do actually believe that a liberal arts education is valuable. I am just a cynic when it comes to reflective essays on how Carleton has improved my writing.
Upon my return to my room, I found my roommates playing video games, instead of finishing their portfolios. Apparently, they have decided that this deadline must inherently be flexible, and that video games are therefore more important than filling out forms. I think that’s probably a bad idea, but then again, I can sympathize with their plight. We’ll see how that works out for them.
I should have my whole portfolio up soon, including all my papers and my reflective essay. In the mean time, I’m gonna go play video games.
