John Edwards

So, as we all know by now, and as many of us anticipated, John Kerry has chosen John Edwards as his running mate. I’ll skip all the trite truisms about how this’ll bring balance to his campaign, or how it shifts the battleground states to the South, or how people may think Edwards is inexperienced, etc. But I’m still excited. With a VP candidate at his side, Kerry is finally going to be able to begin to make his move on the Bush-monster.

Admittedly, I don’t agree with Edwards on all of his politics. Specifically, I have issues with his views on trade. I hope to hear more about that from the campaign soon. Also, while I like his "two Americas" theme, I worry that he may be shooting himself in the foot if he gets too down on the ruling class. Nonetheless, having heard him back in May at the Minnesota DFL convention, I can definitely say that he’s an absolutely amazing speaker. His oratory abilities will play well for him, and if Kerry is smart and puts him to use, for the campaign.

I have to admit I’m not as informed on American politics as I’d like to be right now. I’m definitely missing having all my RSS feeds easily available to me. I read CNN and Fark (if that counts as a news site) and sometimes Salon, but I still feel a bit behind on things.

Sometimes that’s not so bad. It’s probably better that I go out and experience England rather than spend my days glued to the computer screen. I’ll probably be missing all the nuances of discussion and debate leading up to the nomination, so don’t expect too much in-depth coverage from here. If anything, I’d rather talk about British views of American politics anyway. It’s a much more interesting topic. So go read all the hawks somewhere else. Listen to the same arguments 100 times over. Then report back to me. I’ll be listening.
