This morning, I hastily get ready for work, run out the door, get in my dad’s crap car, and start to back out of the driveway. When I try to put it in drive, it stalls. When I try to restart it, the engine won’t turn over. When I try to take the key out, it is stuck. When I use a wrench to pull the key out, I can’t turn the the ignition anymore. When I get the key thing fixed, the engine still won’t turn over.
Conceding defeat, and unsurprised that the car has finally kicked the bucket, I call my workplace, telling them I have car trouble and will be late. I call my mom to ask if I can borrow her minivan to go to work. I call my neighbor, asking for a ride to get my mother’s van. I ride with her, pick up the van, and drive it to work. I arrive half an hour late.
Work happens. I come home, tired, hungry, and surprised to see the car in its original location. I go into the house, ask my parents if they pushed it back into place, and am told that it started up fine for them. I launch into a detailed, lengthy recounting of the events surrounding my car troubles.
They tell me that I forgot to put the car back in park before I restarted it.
