Installment number two in me finally getting my butt in gear and putting my photos up. This includes the photos from our brief group trip to Normandy, including seeing the American cemetary, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the Bayeux tapestry, etc.
Pictures cannot express how moving some of these things are. Especially the beach. Being on Omaha beach, a gorgeous beach on a gorgeous summer day, is bizarre and surreal, but simultaneously powerful. Climbing into abandoned Nazi gun turrets combines awe and disgust. It’s little wonder that even the greatest filmmakers cannot capture these experiences, much less the experience of D-Day itself. I certainly can’t.
But then, my babbling won’t get you any closer to understanding either. Historical importance aside, Normandy is absolutely gorgeous, and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
