Time for an Upgrade

My computer exploded!

Because it’s currently Spring Break, I’ve been unceremoniously kicked out of my house for the next week and a half, and I’m staying a few blocks away in another house. It’s annoying. But I figured that with me, my computer, and a huge to-do list, I’d probably be kept plenty busy.

But Tuesday night, I brought my computer into my temporary room and plugged it in. I didn’t plug in anything but the power cord, and I didn’t turn it on. I was just sitting there relaxing on the bed, when BAM! A flash of light inside my power supply, a bang, and some smoke. My computer was toast.

I took it in the next day to work to test it, hoping that only the power supply would need to be replaced. But a little spot of black on the proceessor made it clear that I would not be so lucky. So for the last several days, I’ve been set about the task of ordering the parts to put together a new one. I spent 10 hours today researching and planning, but I finally got it all figured out. I can’t wait till Tuesday, when it all arrives.

I decided that my previous computer was way too loud. So this time, I’ve made a point of getting exceptionally quiet components. My goal is to have a computer that’s fast, but doesn’t sound like there’s an engine next to my desk. I’m looking forward to the quiet.

So yeah, it’s been an unexpected drain on my time and my finances, and it’s kept me from blogging for awhile. But sometimes, it’s nice to be forced to do something you really want to do anyway. :-)
