Sweets

If you tried to convince most Americans to try Indian sweets, I think they wouldn’t do it. When you walk up to a sweets shop, all you see is a case of round balls of various colors. Invariably, the sweets consist of some type of gooey sticky substance possibly fried and soaked in sugar syrup. They’re made of different types of things, they may have other flavors in the syrup, sometimes they’re served hot, but that’s the basic formula. Interesting, but not the kind of thing that most Westerners would seem to jump at.

But man these things are addicting. Despite the fact that everything in the case is just a variation on a theme, I somehow feel compelled to try them all. I’ve come to realize that there will be no big surprises, and when it comes down to it, I’m not even sure that they’re that good. But I just can’t stop. :-)

And I told myself I was gonna be good in India…
