The Switch to Flickr

One of the things that has really held me back on updating my blog for the past 5 months has been photos. I’ve long been dissatisfied with the options I’ve had for uploading photos and putting them in my blog. The photo plugin I use now, Exhibit, works well, but it requires a mess of configuration and code snippets to work. Perhaps most importantly, even after all that uploading, making thumbnails, and writing descriptions, it’s still really difficult to share my pictures the way I’d really like to.

I held out on buying a Flickr pro account, but I finally went for it yesterday. I was waiting for plugins that would make it possible for me to integrate Flickr easily with my blog. They aren’t perfect yet, but I now feel like I can easily go back and switch over all my old posts. Moreover, if I ever switch plugins, I won’t again have to go through this arduous process of relabeling everything.

It’s going to take me awhile to upload, sort, and tag everything, so it’s going to be a gradual switchover process, but in the mean time, you can check out my progress on the Flickr site. Sorry it’s not yet as well organized as I would like it to be. I’ve uploaded, among other things, most of my photos from this summer in India, so definitely check them out!

… Five months of blog housecleaning takes awhile.
