As a DJ on KRLX, I have to say, I’m really impressed with the things that the board has been doing recently to improve the station.
When I was a lowly freshman on this campus, KRLX was a much different place. Centered around the notion of total DJ freedom with minimal interference from the folks in charge, KRLX was really a fairly uninspiring station. There were few listeners, little web presence, and for the most part, a sense that being a DJ had little or no meaning.
A lot has changed since then. The station has fully embraced technology. They’ve indexed the record library, started offering new shows and podcasts, created searchable online playlists, and done all sorts of other cool stuff. Now it’s possible to go on the station website and request and send messages directly to the DJs. We’ve gotten messages from folks in 44 states and several countries. That’s pretty darn awesome.
Cameron, Scott, and the other folks that have been working on this have done a fantastic job. Never have I been so proud to be a KRLX DJ. Never have I (or many of the DJs, from what I can gather) taken the station so seriously. And from what I can tell, never has the station been so good.
I have to admit, I look forward to being able to listen to a vibrant, interactive KRLX when I leave Carleton. That’s pretty cool.
