Two days in, and I already feel behind.
Making to-do lists is sometimes a bad idea. Especially when they turn out to be really long, and instead of working them down over the last two weeks, you’ve been on a road trip vacation. I accomplished a few important things today, but not nearly as many as I should have done. Isn’t that always the way it works?
Of course, not having books might be a contributing factor. It doesn’t really help you to feel on top of things when the books you ordered haven’t arrived yet. Although it certainly is an easy excuse. Luckily, at this point in my academic career, I’m willing to let myself slide for awhile.
Then on top of school, there’s work, swing dance club, cleaning, and all the other usual things to iron out. Not to mention money. Oh money, you predictable beast. Predictably not in my pocket. Predictably going into new brakes for my tired car.
You’d think after completing comps I’d be prepared for this. And I am. But sitting in the car for hours on end has left me unable to function in a logical, ordered manner. I need to spread everything out with long breaks and collective pauses. I want to fill my long days with relaxed, even progress, like the hum of the tires on pavement.
It’s as if I expect, in the blank stare off into the horizon, to find the answers to all my problems, and to finish all my tasks. As long as the tires keep humming, I’ll make it there in the end. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that.
I’m not on the road anymore.
