The Eating Season

I found the free food!

Yesterday marked the official beginning of the Senior Eating Season.

With only two weeks until graduation, Carleton kicks it into high gear. They know that the quickest way to get us to give gobs of money for all eternity is to enter through our stomachs. So we’re wined and dined left and right. It’s fabulous.

Last night was the annual Carleton Senior Dinner, where the alumni–who have been through this before and know what it’s all about–bought us copious amounts of wine. There’s nothing quite like leaving dinner, realizing you’re too drunk to do school work, and recognizing that you only have two options: either you go to sleep or you keep drinking.

Guess which one I chose. (Of course, the Senior drinking season has long been in full swing, and although college-bought booze is a little more elusive, the taps certainly have been flowing).

Tomorrow is the Economics department picnic, followed on Tuesday by the Econ department senior dinner. The music faculty are taking me out to breakfast on Friday, and that’s not even counting all the free food that I’ll be getting during Senior Week (the college pays for all of those meals).

It’s good to know that somebody in this administration has been reading my blog carefully.

  1. I have really enjoyed reading everything on your blog, that is, until I read about the Baby Boomers. I’m one, and could not agree with you more about what this crazy guy had to say. I would like to leave you with some very important information. First and foremost, if you grew up in DC in the 60’s, believe it or not, NO ONE knew what a hippie was, no one hugged trees, and no one I ever knew would swallow anything this crazy idiot said.
I love your blog, and it’s so fun to see your progress, and the dancing, that I didn’t even know was in DC anymore. However, I hope you will take what I have said and pass it around. It seems to be the only thing anyone writes about the 60’s. We were from DC, and in the 60’s you never went out without a suit on, and a woman still used high heals and gloves! Yes, we did wear a lot of eye makeup, and men had hair that was as stiff as a board, but we NEVER EVER were hippies, and never fell for the hug a tree way of life.
I look forward to seeing you post more about your life, and good times. I may be 59, but I am still 18 inside. I ran at all the hot spots of the day in DC dancing my butt off, and really liked the clips in the forum that led me to your site. I pray you have a wonderful life, and pass on the information about the real 60’s generation. The press named us the Boomers, not us. I pray they don’t stick a name on you too, it’s hard to swallow.
Again, Have a great life! Enjoy it, and dance till your 90, it will keep you young forever.
